Kappa Delta

For over 100 years Kappa Delta has encouraged women college-aged and beyond to be caring individuals, concerned citizens and community leaders.  The Girls Scouts of America have also fostered such ideals in their members.  Alpha Delta supports the local girls scouts through events that include crafts at our house, selling cookies together in the Lair, and dancing to the Cheetah Girls!

Since 1981 all collegiate chapters and many alumnae associations participate Kappa Delta's "Shamrock Event" which raises money for the prevention of child abuse.  Each organization chooses their own fundraising activity, and 80 percent of the money raised by the event goes to local child abuse prevention charities and the remaining 20 percent to PCA America.  

     The Alpha Delta chapter's "Shamrock Event" is our "Mr. Shamrock Pageant" held every March.  A tremendous amount of planning goes into the event and provides a service activity in which each and every sister's contribution is needed for the event to succeed. 

In 1921, Kappa Delta made a pledge to support a 2-bed, fledgling clinic operated by William Tate Graham, M.D.  A pioneer in the treatment of polio, he was also a generous man who never turned a patient away.  Today the Children's Hospital has expanded to provide treatment for all children maintaining its policy of serving all children in need regardless of their inability to pay.  Kappa Delta has kept its promise to support the hospital and has donated funds which have gone to building an operating room, developing a clinic and buying a van to transport patients.  Kappa Delta is a primary supporter of the hospital and Kappa Delta's serve on its governing board.
